Lola’s Dice drops a killer psych cumbia on WaxWorks Records on download, stream & custom-cut Vinyl. The tune is a heavy, hypnotic, danceable composition filled with creamy guitar, Farfisa riffs and a constant, groovy riff.
Lolas Dice is not a new player in the world of Earth Works. For years the band has spent long hours, refining their sound with creatively rich composing sessions inside the walls of Earth Works studio. After one such session, the band lit up the idea of joining Earthworks live-mixing & dub mentality, with with one of Lola's Dice Afro-Caribbean tunes.
The harvest of such encounter is reflected on the first track of this release: Chancleta y Pow (Dubeame esta Cumbia). This dub-tune is meant to fire up the imagination & hip movements of every living creature that knows how to dig the Cumbia groove.
Inspired by one of most important bands of the Ruido Tropical movement “ Frente Cumbiero”
On the A-side, the original psych cumbia tune morphs into some next-level sabrosura through dubbing. Behind the mixing desk, transformed into a multi-headed devil (see forthcoming video), Kingsway and Alex Figueira converse with the conga and the guira by mangling the faders & torturing the dials. Unlike many such productions, the second track let the dancer to enjoy the original cumbia mix.
On the B-side,, the song tells the story of one of Latin America's iconic characters: The bus driver. To give you some context, bus drivers in the Caribbean drive their own piece of heaven (or hell, depending on your perspective) on earth: loud music, usually Cumbia or something related to partying, substance use and abuse, reckless driving, spontaneous singing as a way of collecting tickets, and all sorts of shenanigans that vary uniquely from town to town, and from bus to bus. This song is a tribute to that world, where the lyrics and the music transport you to the chaotic, yet somehow pristine world of bus drivers, the madness they see everyday, and the overall vibes of their physical and mental trips.
